Whether that is a deeper discussion about goals and how to achieve them or keeping priorities in check, Career Specialists at Tri-County Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) work hard to make sure their kids feel seen, heard, and ready to take on life’s greatest challenges.

Staff Interview: Mike McKinney
Mike McKinney has been a cornerstone of Tri-County Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) since 2008. He initially started with JOG in Medina County as a Career Specialist at the Medina County Career Center. He then worked in Summit County at both Garfield and North high schools, as well as the out-of-school program. He started his leadership role in JOG as a County Coordinator for Summit County before moving to Trumbull County, where he works today.

Student Success Stories: Angel
Not every student that we work with at Tri-County Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) in in high school. We work with out-of-school (OOS) students, too. These students normally have jobs and lives outside of formal education. They come to us with unique situations, and our OOS staff works hard to make sure they feel welcome, educationally engaged, and inspired to gain their high school diploma or high school equivalency (HSE, formerly known as a GED).

JOG the Web: Organizational Strengths in Differences – DEI Conference
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has become a larger priority in the workplace in the past few years. In an ever-evolving professional landscape, it is important to be able to make everyone feel comfortable and seen. Through conscious efforts of recognizing what a more representative policy looks like, we are able to recognize what everyone can do to make their workplace more diverse, equitable, and inclusive. Tri-County Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) has been hosting DEI Conferences online since 2021, but this year we are hosting our first in-person conference!

JOG the Web: In-House Conferences
Part of being in the Tri-County Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) program is the ability to be involved in three different conferences centered around personal and professional growth. These conferences are the Career Development Conference (CDC), Leadership Development Conference (LDC), and Organizational Strengths in Differences – DEI Conference (OSiD). Each of these conferences brings in industry professionals to share important life lessons to our students, such as how important some attributes like self confidence are in the workplace, how to get interviews from a variety of companies spanning multiple fields, and how individuality is one of the students’ greatest strengths.

Staff Interview: Cheryl Mason
Cheryl Mason has been giving back to the Medina County community for over 30 years and has been with Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) since retiring from Job and Family Services (JFS) in 2019. She started her career by taking the civil service exam and from there diving into her career at JFS.

When a student comes to Tri-County Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG), every single one comes from a different background. They all have different hardships, different successes, and ultimately different stories. Anna’s story is a unique one.

Partner Showcase: Old Navy
Here at Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG), we are lucky to have such great employment partners who want to see our students put in a position to succeed. From learning skills in the trades to developing interpersonal skills and even occasional management training, these companies provide valuable skills to our kids as part of the JOG program, setting them up for success in their future careers. Old Navy has been a partner of the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) curriculum and is also a local partner to us at JOG. They have been involved in events we have hosted as an employment partner, including this year’s Leadership Development Conference.

JOG the Web: Medina ’s JOG In-School Program
Sometimes all it takes is the right person to inspire you to make a change in your life. That is what Jarrod Wenger, Career Specialist at Medina High School, works hard to do every day with his students. He has been working with Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) for some time now and actually got his start in Arizona. He has been at Medina High School for nine years since moving to Ohio and shifting to Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG).

Staff Interview: Rochelle Mitchell
Staff at Tri-County Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates are very passionate about their work, especially when it comes to our students. Rochelle has been with Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) since 1998 and started out as a Career Specialist at Kenmore High School. While working as a Specialist, she was able to build bonds with the students she worked with and helped them along their path to career readiness. As Rochelle explained, “When we talk about our students, it’s like we are talking about our kids. I say that because they really do feel like our kids. We want to see them be successful, give back to their community, and we want to help to make a difference in their lives.” She continued, “We love the ability to help get kids work experience. We help them earn a living and get needed skills to be successful.”
