Employer Spotlight: Miller’s Party Rental
This summer, our JOG students found real-world experience at Miller’s Party Rental, gaining hands-on skills and making a lasting impression along the way. Partnerships like this one sit at the heart of our Career Readiness and Attainment programming, giving students the chance to put what they’ve learned into practice in a real workplace.
Most of the students at Miller’s have been in the warehouse. “Some things they have been working on is cleaning and organizing chairs used for events, rolling pipe and drape, and working on cleaning dishes used at our events,” the supervisor explained. It’s the kind of hands-on, task-oriented work that builds the Workplace Survival Skills students carry with them into any career path, from following instructions and managing time to understanding the rhythm of a busy operation.
Roles like these are typically filled by seasonal staff each summer, and having JOG students step in has made a real difference for the team. “Normally, we keep people on staff for these positions in the summer, and having JOG students here too is a big help!” the supervisor shared. “Even though it is seasonal work, we are happy to have them as a part of the team and helping out.”
For the supervisor, the impact of the students goes beyond simply getting the job done. “They are consistent, they stay on task, and they get a lot done,” she said. “They also stay alert and pay attention to what they’re working on. These kids are detail oriented, and that makes all the difference.”
That kind of feedback is a reflection of the work ethic and professionalism JOG students bring to every opportunity, skills built through our core programming and strengthened in real workplaces like Miller’s Party Rental.
