Staff Interview: Gregory
At JOG, our core competencies center on Career Readiness, Attainment, and Workplace Survival Skills and at the heart of each is having the right people in place to champion young people. Gregory, JOG’s Career Specialist at Massillon High School, is a shining example of what it looks like when those competencies come to life.
Gregory has long known that he wanted to work in education. That calling led him to a position with Canton City Schools and, later, to a charter school in Akron. Shortly after making the move to Summit County, he received a call from a former colleague, the principal of Canton City Schools, about an opportunity with JOG that seemed like a fit. After further conversations with the principal and Stark County Manager Mike, Gregory learned of an opening at Massillon High School. The chance to serve students in the same community where his family and friends live was an easy one to dive into. What started as a promising opportunity has since grown into a dream job. Gregory has even begun “putting down roots” in the community by recently buying a house! His love for education and Massillon proves his continued commitment towards ensuring every young person he works with steps into their next chapter as prepared as possible.
Gregory is also quick to remind his students that learning doesn’t end at graduation, a belief he lives out in his own life. He is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Special Education, proving that the drive to grow never stops.
Gregory embodies everything JOG looks for in a Career Specialist. He has a genuine passion for young people, a continued dedication to lifelong learning, and an unwavering commitment to the communities he serves. His presence at Massillon High School is a testament to the power of the right person in the right role, and the lasting impact that connection can have on a student’s future. As JOG continues to expand its reach across Ohio, it is professionals like Gregory who make the mission more than a vision…they make it a reality.
