EMPLOYER PARTNERS

MAKE YOUR COMPANY STRONGER WITH THE JOG CONNECTION

Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) is one of more than 40 affiliates of the nationwide Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) organization. As an affiliate, we have access to the evidence-based JAG curriculum and JAG Model of service delivery and implementation.

STEP 1: Register to Become an Employer Partner

The first step to becoming an Employer Partner with JOG is to show your interest. We would love to talk to you more about how we can work together to benefit both your business and the next generation of the workforce.

STEP 2: Connect With Our Employer Engagement Team

Once you have reached out to show your interest, a member of JOG’s Employer Engagement Team will be in touch. Here they will discuss our subsidized and unsubsidized opportunities, the role of supervisors/mentors on the job, the benefits of working with JOG participants, and how you can give back to your community by empowering tomorrow’s workforce at your own worksite.

STEP 3: Attend Employer Orientation Training

Before getting started as an employer partner with JOG, everyone has to go through an orientation training. This training covers who JOG is, what the goal of becoming an employer partner with JOG is for both sides of this new partnership, how to be a successful youth mentor, expectations of the program, how to use the clock in and out timeclock system and answering any questions you may have before having participants come to your worksite.

STEP 4: On-Site Participant Training and Introduction

At this point, you are ready to bring on a JOG participant to work on your worksite. On their first day make sure that your team is aware of the new addition to the site and introduce them. We want your team and JOG participants to feel confident in working together and this is a great way to get things started on the right foot. After this step, please make sure to provide participants with a tour of the facility, their formal job description, their set schedule and the process on how to clock in and out. Finally, if the participant will not be reporting to you, make sure to introduce them to their new supervisor so that they can discuss how their team interacts and their expectations.

STEP 5: Mentor Youth Through Paid Work Experience

After you have finished training the new JOG participants you have on your worksite, they are ready to work! Whether it is through a subsidized program or a traditional unsubsidized program, the JOG employer engagement team remains an asset to help you and your participant(s) along the way. As a employer partner with JOG, you are able to bring in participants and teach/mentor them on site. By working with these young people, you are able to help instill good work ethics and establish healthy working habits with the next generation of the workforce.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

To ensure that becoming an employer partner with JOG is a smooth process, here are some things to have handy when going through the onboarding training.

SEE THE EFFECT JOG HAS HAD ON OUR PARTNERS

“The young people we have are the future of our employment. We have to find people to give them a chance and give them a shot and then mentor them. Teach them how to work hard and I think you’ll end up with an amazing employee.”

– Brian Williams, Copley-Fairlawn City Schools

“You’re connecting students to great opportunities through the business connections you have made and letting them see if they actually like doing this type of work. I think it’s as simple as connectivity an opportunity.”

– Founder Shon Christy, Shon Christy Social Media

“We want to see good habits form. If I can do that through being relatable and open communication, we have done our part to help these students to learn to be better people and better employees.”

– Doug Sutton, Akron Recreation and Parks

“We are always looking to help young people grow in their career. We like to think of it as a test to see how they can handle more responsibility. ”

– Rachael Neff, Metallus

“JOG has been great for my business over the past 10 years. It has helped us add additional staff without a large budget increase. Most importantly, I am able to provide a workplace for some fine young individuals that need a chance to grow and receive guidance. JOG helps businesses like mine change the lives of many while filling a need of my own. This is a WIN WIN relationship that I look forward to every year! ”

– Chad Gibson, Bunker Hill Golf Course
