Student Success Story: William

At Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG), we believe every student has the potential to succeed with the right support and guidance. Since enrolling in January of 2025, William has shown steady growth and a strong commitment to building a better future. His ongoing journey with JOG is a reminder that small steps, taken consistently, can lead to big changes.
William came to us eager to learn! He brought with him a respectful and friendly attitude that helps keep him motivated. School has not always been easy for him, however. He faced challenges that made him realize something had to change if he was going to walk the path he wanted. After school, you’ll often find him showing up strong at his job at McDonald’s. It’s clear that William is determined to put in the work every day for himself and for those counting on him.
When William first heard of JOG, he was hesitant. He already had a job, and he didn’t see what additional benefit enrolling could bring. But with a little encouragement and explanation, both from his Career Specialist and peers, he decided to give it a shot. Once he joined, William dove headfirst into conversations about what drives him, what his goals are, and the values that matter most to him. He explained that he is driven, not just by the idea of success, but by what success can do for those he loves. He comes from a close family. He has brothers and a sister he gets along with, and a mother he deeply respects.
William’s aspirations are big and clear: he wants to be successful! One day he would like to launch his own business and become a successful businessman. One of his goals that is especially meaningful to him is reaching a level of success where he can provide for his mother, so she can retire, enjoy vacations, and have the comforts she deserves. JOG has helped William see not only the skills he needs to work towards his goals, but how to make it a fruitful career as well. One of the strengths William has built through JOG is in managing emotions and conflict. When things get heated, he now knows he can lean on his Career Specialist, use the JOG room to calm down and speak honestly about what’s going on. Over time, he has felt more and more assured in his decision making and conflict management skills!
Looking ahead, William’s future is bright. He is committed to continuing his emotional growth, sharpening his conflict resolution skills, and laying the foundation for his business dreams. As William puts it best: “Put that money in my pocket.” We couldn’t be prouder of William’s progress, and we can’t wait to see where he goes next!
