JOG the Web: Positive Reinforcement and Preparation
How JOG Career Specialists help students through potholes on their road to success!
One of the hardest parts of learning workplace readiness is overcoming anxieties. Being new to the workplace can be a scary experience for participants who have never had a job before or have had a bad experience in the past. That’s where we come in. JOG Career Specialists are trained to be able to help work through these exact fears! From being trauma informed, to life skill training, and even a 12-month follow-up process at the end of the traditional JOG process, our Career Specialists help participants along the way to being confident and well-prepared at work through positive reinforcement tactics.
One of the most important ways that JOG helps young people feel confident and prepared for work is through our trauma-informed care. This process is designed to provide individual attention to students to overcome barriers that prevent them from taking advantage of their high school education, completing requirements for a high school diploma and/or securing employment or pursuing a post-secondary education leading to a career after high school. One way that this is put into effect is through working on triggers. By working to recognize things that trigger the participant, it will help them see where they can improve and be cognizant of when to step back. This can help alleviate their anxiety and help these young people handle work with confidence.
The next thing that the JOG mission aims to instill is various life skills. From financial literacy, to public speaking, to interviewing, and even proper attire for different professional settings, there are many ways that life skill education through JOG can make all the difference. These life skills are things that are taught to make our participants into flourishing young adults.
To ensure that these young people are fully prepared to be sent off into the professional world, we enroll graduated participants into a 12-month follow-up program. This program keeps participants in touch with their Career Specialist to check in and help work through workplace stressors, cheer on their successes and mitigate any other issues that may arise during their employment. This way, we can make sure that graduating participants can put their best foot forward in their careers after JOG.
As the JOG program has done for the past 39 years, we will continue to instill great work ethics to the next generation of the workforce through high quality preparation. These programs of being trauma informed, trained on life skills and learning how to ask for help will serve our participants well throughout their careers!
