Student Success Story: Brian
Learn about Brian’s Academic and Personal Journey with JOG!
Some of the toughest things we have to deal with in life are breaking through walls we have had to put up. whether that be from past traumas or more recent fears. When Brian came to the Medina County JOG program, he was trying to overcome just that. With the help of his Career Specialist, Cindy, he was able to reach heights that he didn’t see as possible when he enrolled.
Brian joined the JOG program at the end of the school year in May of 2023 as a Junior. He and his family had been struggling with the loss of multiple family members and he was looking for guidance. He admitted to Cindy that he had been struggling to get up for school, he had flunked a grade, and that he had struggled with the law in the past. He told Cindy that he wanted to work on himself and not let his past define who he is today. Once Brian and Cindy figured out a plan on how to move forward, they got to work. They began working together on his attendance and different ways to be a successful young adult.
After putting in a lot of work on his grades, Brian and his mother agreed that it would be more effective for him to withdraw from public school and work on his GED. This proved to be a great decision for Brian as he was able to make a very quick turnaround from transitioning to Out-of-School in November 2023 to scoring highly on his SAT and completing his GED in February 2024. On top of his academic achievements, Brian was able to take part in JOG’s Summer Work Program as well as transition to 2 different jobs he held while studying for his GED! He plans to shoot for the stars and has set out a plan moving forward is to start his own real estate LLC.
We are all so proud of Brian! His academic and career journeys have set him up for great future successes. We are excited to see Brian’s journey to opening his own real estate LLC and all of his other future heights.
