Student Success Stories: Ivan
Student success is our main goal here at Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates. That goal looks different for ever participant and every Specialist. From our 37 Core Competencies to academic growth, there are plenty of educational metrics to look at to define what success looks like. In preparation of the 2022 Leadership Development Conference, Career Specialists were able to award some of their students to be awarded the nomination for a 2022 JOG Leader of the Year to honor those students that they think best exemplify the mission of JOG through leadership qualities.
Ivan is a great example of personal successes and growth across the board and through JOG. His Career Specialist, Heidi Phillips located in Warren, OH nominated him after working with him since his beginnings with Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates.
Ivan has overcome a background of hardship that affected his life both personally and educationally. After all it is very tough to give it your all while in school when you have at-home problems. Though he initially joined JOG because his friends were joining, he quickly figured out that there was a lot more than meets the eye. He made new friends, gained confidence, and became more outgoing. After a haircut, getting new clothes, and a new-found sense of purpose, Ivan began to thrive becoming more involved in his school’s JOG program. He has been a prominent voice in his community and was even unanimously named the President of his chapter of the National Career Association.
Career Specialist, Heidi Phillips helped him get his first job which he is still in this day and is going strong. His managers all hold their highest regards for him and love having him there. Having this job, as well as training from JOG has helped him realize and achieve goals that he has put in place for himself.
Ivan is an exemplary student and is a great young man. Recognized for his kind heart and enthusiasm, he is a beacon of what JOG aims to achieve. We applaud all of our 2022 Tri-County JOG Student leaders of the year for their progress and leadership in their respective classes!
